CyPhy Works, Inc. Revolutionizes Multi-Rotor Drone Flight with Launch of LVL 1 Drone
Helen Greiner, CEO of CyPhy Works and cofounder of iRobot, announces first consumer drone
BOSTON, May 4, 2015 -- CyPhy Works, Inc. today announced the launch of a Kickstarter campaign to fund its first consumer offering, the CyPhy LVL 1 Drone: the company's consumer-friendly, affordable drone that features intuitive, stable flying. CyPhy Works has previously been focused on tethered drones for industrial applications. CEO Helen Greiner previously cofounded iRobot, which redefined home vacuuming with the Roomba.
As engineers pushing to redefine drone flight, Greiner and team were inspired to make their foray into the consumer landscape by the market's lack of a flying robot for every day, and everyone's, use. Priorities for this new drone included easy and intuitive flight, stability, ultra high-quality video with the ability to share footage in real-time, no landing gear so the drone fits in a backpack, and a built-in protected camera. The LVL 1 Drone can be in flight for at least 20 minutes on a full charge, and weighs less than two pounds. Other drones claim all sorts of impressive capabilities, but typically their most expensive parts like cameras are exposed and flights all too often result in expensive damage.
Available now on Kickstarter, CyPhy Works LVL 1's groundbreaking features include:
* Innovative Level-Up Technology - By re-inventing multi-rotor flight, this drone flies completely horizontally and makes piloting simpler, images more stable, and flying intuitive.
* Geo-fencing for safe training - Users will be able to pace off the area where they want the drone to stay. Set a maximum and minimum height and the drone will stay within the box.
* Swipe-to-Fly with Android or iOS mobile - With the swipe of a finger, the drone flies, phones stay squarely in hands, and the screen stays perfectly visible.
* Instant social media sharing - Through the smart phone app, users can post photos and video footage to social media immediately, while the drone is still in flight.
"Our drone protects its camera, flies simply, shares intuitively, and captures high-quality footage effortlessly." said Helen Greiner, CEO of CyPhy Works. "Backers will be filming their child's soccer game, shooting stunning vistas, and performing home inspections from day one - we are bringing technology to people where they are in their everyday lives. This product will capture great footage and we hope it also captures people's imagination."
Kickstarting at $495 for the base model, backers may choose from a variety of support levels from two dollars to $4,500, with rewards ranging from bumper stickers and t-shirts to a whole swarm of LVL 1 Drones and their accessories. CyPhy Works is aiming to raise $250,000 by June 17, 2015 and backers can expect the first drones to ship in February 2016.
