Tecnotion adds QTR Frameless Torque Motors to its direct drive product offering. With low axial height and high torque density, the QTR bridges the size-performance gap.
Tecnotion adds QTR Frameless Torque Motors to its direct drive product offering. With low axial height and high torque density, the QTR bridges the size-performance gap.
Torque Motors from Tecnotion are extremely compact, provide an extremely stiff drive train, eliminate the need for time-consuming mounting procedures, are virtually maintenance free and can be integrated directly into the machine structure, while the spacious open inner diameter enables wire and cable feedthrough. To top things off the entire series comes with completely sealed stators and integrated temperature protection and measurement sensors.
The direct drive technology of brushless torque motors is an ideal way to enhance productivity, accuracy, and dynamic performance of applications. This technology lowers costs, shrinks space requirements, and reduces wear and tear. Torque motors eliminate the need for mechanical transmission components such as gearboxes, belts and speed reducers. This reduces transmission losses and eliminates the cost and maintenance required for additional components. And because there is no contact between rotor and stator, there is no mechanical wear, meaning less maintenance and longer life.
At first glance the QTR series stands out because of its cast design, which differentiates it from other torque motors by providing a low thermal resistance and very high torque density, as seen in the QTRs very flat design, large inner diameter and low stator and rotor mass. All motors come equipped with integrated temperature sensors and high voltage insulation. Rather than flying leads, the QTR series is provided with braided power and sensor cables with strain relief integrated in the stator housing, reducing the rate of wear and potential failure.
The QTR motor series offers a very flat design for lower axial height and high torque density. Features such as a large inner diameter, strain-relieved cable exit, integrated temperature sensors, low thermal resistance, and low stator and rotor mass differentiate the QTR products from other torque motors currently available.
With three outer diameters - 105, 133, and 160 mm - and five build heights, ranging from 17 mm to 92 mm, the QTR series suits applications in markets such as Semiconductor, Medical, Machine Tool, Printing, Rotary tables, Factory Automation, and Robotics. Continuous torque ranges from 1.4 to 63.5 Nm, and speed ranges from 190 rpm to 6918 rpm.

Using AI to Collect & Leverage Data
Data is the foundation of Industry 4.0. While skilled workers will always be essential, data is reshaping the manufacturing landscape, enabling automation of repetitive tasks, empowering smarter decision-making with AI assistance, and reducing defects and downtime. This shift allows small and medium-sized manufacturers (SMMs) to compete more effectively on quality, speed, and cost. While AI and machine learning systems typically require around two years to collect enough data to reach their full potential, manufacturers can start seeing benefits almost immediately with basic analysis tools and dashboards. Our MEP National NetworkTM expert explains how in this Manufacturing Tomorrow article.
